Yep~ It has been a while since last logon to blogger.
So... a friend is getting married soon, in this May. To be exact, a not-so-closed old school mate is getting married, and I have been invited.
This is the very first time that I'm invited to attend a wedding dinner from a friend. Of cause I have been invited to attend to a wedding before, but that's my cousin's, I represented my family, and Mum said no giving angpao because I'm not married. So, I bought a gift. But this is a friend. I have no idea what to do next. Give money? Buy a gift? Give vouchers? What should I do? I consulted some closer friends. The suggestions are to give angpao because it saves time from shopping and easier, or vouchers, which I thought of.
According to experienced people, giving angpao for wedding needs some rules so that giver and receiver will be pleased. =.=
Big angpao is for closer family or friends, or just to "buy" "face" in case would to be invited. However, smaller angpao is for just not-so-closed friends or to "pay" for a "meal" in the wedding.
And most surprisingly, there is a hilarious practice that, some local people is so kiasu till they call up the restaurant of the wedding, to get to know how much is the package for dinner. So that, they will not give too much for the couples, for less luxurious restaurant and food. SHIT! Locally, "CELAKA!". Yes, indeed they are.
Come on... this is so disappointing. Wedding has become a business. Couples who get married no longer mean to share their happiness, but to market their wedding. That's what exactly shown in the movie of Ah Niu in "The Wedding Diary". I'm not advertising movie, but the truth is shown in the movie, now I finally understood.
Wedding is supposed to be happy for the newly-wed couple, not for earning extra angpao purposes. I thought so~
